Zach Blas: Queer Technologies and The Contra-Internet

Looking at the technological construction of the internet space artist and writer Zach Blas researches emerging alternatives in response to the mainstream post-digital discussion. In his talk he will detail his ‘Queer Technologies’ project alongside ‘Facial Weaponization Suite’ workshops he conducted in New York, Los Angeles, San Diego and Mexico City. He will further elaborate on his Contra-internet strategies inspired by “Contra Sex Manifesto” written by philosopher Beatriz Preciado in 2000.



Zach Blas is an artist, writer, and curator whose work engages technology, queerness, and politics. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Art at the University at Buffalo. His work has been written about and featured in Art Review, Frieze, Art Papers, Hyperallergic, Rhizome, Mousse Magazine, The Atlantic, Al Jazeera America, The New Inquiry, and Wired. Zach holds a PhD from the Graduate Program in Literature at Duke University and an MFA in Design Media Arts from UCLA.”
