On October 28, The Moving Museum will launch it’s 2014 Istanbul exhibition in the Sishane Otopark. It will be held across 3 floors of the complex, inhabiting five central halls, a metro level mezanine, and the public outdoor park. The exhibition will span over 80,000 square feet and will feature newly commissioned presentations by all 46 artists and collectives during an intensive three month residency period in Istanbul.

Over the past 3 months The Moving Museum saw 35 international artists join 11 local artists in Istanbul in a period of intensive research, production, and public engagement, and each artist was commissioned to engage in a major new work during their time in the city. The artists represents a generation of practitioners working seamlessly across disciplines and borders, displacing aesthetics and redefining best practices against a backdrop of constant change. The exhibition serves to articulate these approaches through the locus of Istanbul, a city echoing this artistic flux, and whose questions and promises embody a microcosm of compatible concerns.

As an artist focused initiative, The MovingMuseum held a series of workshops led by resident artists exploring the form and structure of the residency and exhibition. The workshops explored the desires, inspirations and challenges risen from this process of exchange; of installing and establishing a nomadic structure in Istanbul, of understanding the complex web of politics underpinning the life and peoples in the city, and of research and production and working towards creating reciprocal moments.

Through these various discussions and ongoing criticality it was collectively decided that the exhibition would establish a forum for individual perspectives, with artists entering on distinct terms, culminating in a space that seeks to stress the possibility of contradictions and multi-perspectivity, and to highlight the individual approach each artist has developed within the residency. With this in mind, the exhibition will reflects the structure of its process and will create a space for discovery and possibility.

Recently completed this year, Sishane Otopark is an important urban planning project, a rare example of a public space in Istanbul situated in the heart of the city directly beside Galata Tower. With a direct link toSishane Metro Station from within the complex, the exhibition will embed itself within the fabric of the city and public circulation.

The Moving Museum 28 Ekim’de 2014 İstanbul sergisini Şişhane Otopark’ta açacak. Kompleksin üç katına yayılacak sergi, beş merkezi salonu, metro seviyesindeki arakat ve dış mekandaki kamuya açık park alanını kullanacak. 80,000 ayak kare alana yayılacak olan sergi, 46 sanatçı ve kolektifin İstanbul’daki üç aylık yoğun misafirlik programı sürecinden sonra ürettiği işlerden oluşacak.

Geçtiğimiz üç ay boyunca The Moving Museum 35 uluslararası, 11 yerel sanatçının İstanbul’da yoğun bir araştırma, üretme ve izleyicilerle biraraya geldikleri etkinlik sürecinden sonra her sanatçı, şehirde geçirdikleri zamanının ürünü olarak yeni bir iş üretmeye davet edildi. Sanatçılar, farklı disiplinler ve mecralarla çalışan bir kuşağı temsil ediyorlar; belli bir estetik yerine kendi pratiklerini sürekli bir değişim üzerinden tanımlıyorlar. Sergi, İstanbul’un yeri üzerinden bu farklı yaklaşımları ifade etmeyi amaçlıyor; sanatsal akışkanlığın yankı bulduğu bir şehir, birbiriyle uyumlu endişelerin yan yana vücut bulduğu küçük bir evren olma sözünü veriyor.

Sanatçı odaklı bir inisiyatif olarak The MovingMuseum misafir sanatçılarla birlikte bir workshop serisi organize ederek misafirlik programı ve sergi yapı ve biçimlerini araştırdı. Workshoplar bu değiş-tokuş süreçlerinin sonucu arzu, ilham ve zorlukları soruşturdu; İstanbul’da nomadik bir yapıyı yerleştirmek, oluşturmak ve şehrin hayatının ve insanlarının arasındaki kompleks siyasi ağı anlamak, araştırma, üretme ve karşılıklı anlar yaratmak üzerine düşünüldü.

Bu tartışma ve süregelen eleştirellik sonucunda, serginin bireysel bakış açıları için bir forum olabileceği ve sanatçıların kendilerine özgü şartlarla girdiği durumun sonucunda çelişki ve çok perspektifliliğe vurgu yapan bir mekan yaratarak her sanatçının misafirlik programı sırasında oluşturduğu bireysel yaklaşımın altı çiziliyor. Bunu düşünerek, serginin ismi The Moving Museum Istanbul olarak serginin yapısının süreci ve yerleşmiş fikir ve beklentilerden ayıracak.

Yakın zamanda bitirilmiş olan Şişhane Otopark, önemli bir şehir planlama projesi, Galata Kulesi’nin hemen yanında, şehrin kalbinde, az rastlanan bir kamusal alan örneği. Şişhane Metro İstasyonu’na direkt bağlantısı ile, sergi şehrin dokusu ve dolaşımın içine oturtuluyor.
